Juliana Betelsen

Ballet
Juliana Bertelsen currently choreographs, performs, and teaches dance. She is the founder of 'Over the Top' Productions here in Duluth. She has worked as a paid professional ballet dancer for 12 years, and achieved principle dancer status with the American National Ballet under Armando Maldonado. Her main training was with Russian teachers at the Kirov Academy of Ballet in Washington DC, which she attended on full scholarship. Her most memorable teachers were Madame Morkovina, Nikolai Morozov, and Alla Sizova. Upon completing her training, Juliana has worked dancing for over six professional Ballet companies both Nationally and Internationally, including the Kirov Ballet and the Universal Ballet. She has performed across Europe in the traditional full-length ballets such as Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty, the Nutcracker, Don Quiote, and La Bayadere. Juliana also loves contemporary dance, and has learned and performed in many styles including Modern, Salsa, Tango, and Hip-hop. A skilled choreographer, Juliana has put on 8 productions, and nearly 40 works of choreography.

Hip-hop
Jesse "Halo" Smith is a native of Superior, Wisc. He has performed and danced in music videos in Florida and California. In the L.A. area, he has studied from numerious Hiphop experts, such as Free Boogie. Jesse is amazing at freestyling, Hip-hop, Breakdance, Popping, and more, and he teaches each each of these areas. Jesse has taught for numerous schools in the Twin Ports area, and can be spotted in performances and freestyling around town. He has been immensely inspiring for a number of young adults in the area who have wanted to get more into Hiphop and were just looking for a good teacher! Jesse gets together people as a crew who are passionate about Hiphop dance for performances. He has recently started "Halo Productions," and he and his wife Shanna are expecting a daughter in september!


Sheila Matthews

Bellydance
Sheila Matthews (dance name Basimah) has been dancing since 1974. She attended the University of California Riverside where she studied modern, jazz, and creative dance. She has studied the art of Middle Eastern dance since 1999 and has been choreographing, performing, and teaching adults as well as children for the past 4 years. Sheila has studied under world renowned dancers such as Suzanna Del Vecchio (Colorado), Jillina ( Bellydance Superstars), Ansuya ( Bellydance Superstars), and Cassandra ( Jawaahir Dance Company). She has been a member of the Middle Eastern Dance troupe Dreamdance Diehard Divas since 2003. Sheila believes dancing is a celebration of life and she loves sharing it with others.

Salsa
Juliana Bertelsen, Nikolay Zhelev Juliana discovered Salsa when she was dancing with Cuban dancers in the Blankenship Balletin California in 2002. Juliana has continued with Salsa dance more intensely up to the present; she really loves to share the fun of Salsa by teaching it to others! In Duluth she has taught Salsa at the Redstar club in the Fitger's building since Sept. 2006, Salsa for Seniors at UMD, Salsa classes for middleschool students through Community Ed at Ordean School, and formerly at Zenith Fitness Studio. She and Nikolay Zhelev enjoy to teach and perform together.

Salsa/Ladies styling
Kerri Sjoblum has studied Salsa dance intensively with renowned Salsa experts in New York City and South America. She has also taken international Salsa workshops. A Duluth native, Kerri teaches Salsa, Ladies styling, and how to lead. Recently back in Duluth from South America, Kerri has already taught Salsa at "Over The Top" Dance studio, Peace church, and the Redstar lounge.

Tango
Recently Juliana Bertelsen and Danny Whitehead have begun teaching Tango at 'The Top Dance Studio'. Juliana has studied Tango at the Hollywood Dance Center, and with Barb and Dave Hanson (Ballroom dance experts here in Duluth who Juliana continues to learn from). Juliana especially enjoys teaching Tango because of it's subtle yet scintillating and passionate quality, and because it can be taught to anyone, whether they have had dance expirience before or not. A mixture of Argentinian and American styles are taught, and will give anyone the tools to glide into style when Tango music is played.

Yoga
Lisa Fitzpatrick has been practicing yoga since 1986. She has studied under teachers such as Patricia Walden and Rodney Yee and has taken seminars with B.K.S. Iyengar. She is a NETA (National Exercise Trainers Association) certified instructor. Lisa teaches Iyengar style yoga and has taught for 4 years. Yoga is currently on Summer break, sign-up's are being taken for the Fall.
